Barbara Colemam "From the Bridge" PleinAir Salon Second Place June 2023

Winner of Second Place overall in the international Plein Air Magazine's June Plein Air Salon

I'm incredibly thrilled and honored to share that I won Second Place overall in the June 2023 PleinAir Salon from PleinAir® Magazine! Participating in this prestigious online competition, inspired by the rich history of the French Salon tradition, has been a transformative experience for me as an artist. The competition rewards artists with $50,000 in all cash prizes each year, and exposure of their work, culminating in the Grand Prize chosen out of the top winners each month. Editorial in Southwest Art Magazine, April/May 2023

My paintings were featured in Southwest Art Magazine in the April/May issue. I have included a link to the article: Click here to read the article! Land,Sea and Sky explored six artists' inspirations and motivations for painting landscapes. I paint landscapes partly because I hear my mother's words ringing in my ears, "go play outside!" I am in love with the natural world. Pure and simple.

Editorial in Western Art Collector, May 2023

Western Art Collector featured my paintings in their May issue on the State of Art in New Mexico! Click here to read this article.

From the article: Artist Barbara Coleman is captivated by the mountains, cliffs, arroyos and dramatic skies of New Mexico. She says, "They are 'fierce landscapes' pared down to the essentials. They teach me to look beyond subject matter and see abstract shapes of luscious color and strong patterns of sunlight and shadow, from which to design my paintings. I am seeking visual poetry over journalistic accuracy in my work."

Editorial in Fine Art Connoisseur, May/June 2023

When it rains, it pours. I was thrilled that the editor of Fine Art Connoisseur chose my painting Golden Rio, 10x20, oil, to be included in Bringing Nature Indoors. Kelly Compton described the challenges artists face when bringing their studies from nature into the studio to create paintings from memory, sketches, photos and inspiration. I love working in my studio and composing a new piece from my reference material in the field. I take full advantage of my "artistic license".
