Winter 2024 Newsletter

It has been awhile since I have shared a newsletter with you. My apologies. My term as President of Plein Air Painters of New Mexico is drawing to a close. We have almost 400 members and we hosted four big events this year: plein air painting competitions, our National Show, and our upcoming Winter Light Small Works Show. It has been a busy and demanding year for me in this role.

Happy to say that I held my boundaries around my painting time, however much work PAPNM required of me. I got to study with my mentor Scott Christensen in Idaho in the fall, followed by a glorious visit to my daughter Madeleine, son-in-law, and granddaughters in Idaho immediately afterwards. Our camper van has become a paint-mobile, which has led us on some fun adventures.

I was honored to receive some fabulous recognition for my paintings by winning awards in PleinAir Magazine's online PleinAir competition.

I am so happy to share that Morning Shadows on the Sandias 16x20, oil, is showing now at the Oil Painters of America Western Regional Exhibition at the Phippen Museum in Prescott, AZ. Jurying into any OPA exhibition is always a thrill. This painting is the result of many plein air studies in the early morning, standing in an arroyo at the base of the Sandias.

To purchase my painting please contact Jeannette Holverson, Curator, at 928.778.1385.

Here is a painting fresh off the easel! It was one of the more challenging paintings I ever created. Loved every minute working on it!

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I wish for you to have health and happiness, meaning and purpose, and JOY!
